Seu princ\u00edpio est\u00e1 relacionado com as m\u00e1ximas tens\u00f5es de tra\u00e7\u00e3o geradas na superf\u00edcie de corpos de prova a partir de pesos que imp\u00f5e momentos fletores calculados previamente. Uma vez que ocorre a rota\u00e7\u00e3o do corpo de prova as tens\u00f5es trativas e compressivas s\u00e3o alternadas constantemente sendo que, a cada rota\u00e7\u00e3o, tem-se um ciclo de fadiga.
